Road Maintenance

The Highway Commissioner, along with his road crew, oversees the construction and maintenance of roads within the unincorporated areas of the City of Peru.

Outside the city limits, the Peru Township road crew diligently works to maintain the roadways and provide excellent service for our residents.

The Road District is responsible for a range of services, including road construction, striping, patching, plowing, salting, mowing, and more.

Vehicle Road Permits

Vehicle permits are necessary for vehicles exceeding weight and limit regulations while traveling on Peru Township roads. To request an overweight permit, Contact Road Commissioner Steve Michelini at (815) 228-4507.

Please allow a processing time of 24 hours for vehicle permit approval. Proceed only after receiving your approved permit.

Weight postings will take effect in spring. Road permits will not be issued during these postings. For further inquiries during this period, please don’t hesitate to reach out.
